We’re taking a moment to recognize Kansas City’s wordsmiths.
Taken from KCPT’s “Arts Upload,” which has amassed an impressive collection of local poets reading their own works, “Spotlight” gives Flatland a chance to catch up with the artists. We find out what they’re up to and get their take on what to watch in the local and national art scene.

My debut poetry book, “The Sinbads Sessions” released in November. I’m working on promoting that and also working on some other ventures to come in 2016.
My book release! Having the book release party and sharing that with friends, family and fans was amazing!
I have been reading “The BreakBeat Poets: New American Poetry in the Age of Hip-Hop”. It’s an anthology edited by Chicago poet Kevin Coval. I’ve been listening to Moonchild and Kendrick Lamar. I constantly watch a YouTube channel called Button Poetry that features a lot of great performance poets.
To practice mindfulness. To be present in the moment as a person and as an artist. To travel… and to read one book a month.
