An investigation into when enough finally is enough, “Withdrawal” shares the story of a young man’s struggle to address his drug addiction.

For writer and director Jacob Harding, the short film is the next step in pursuit of a film career that began at the tender age of 13.

“I made little short films with my friends, and one day my mom watched one of them — and they were really bad,” Harding said. “But to her, she was like: ‘Wow, Jake, this is really amazing. You can do this for the rest of your life.’ ”

So that became the plan.

Harding, who spent much of his youth in Platte City, is now in Los Angeles living the Hollywood dream. “Withdrawal” has been selected for seven film festivals. And he’s now working on music videos.
