Being from West Texas, you would think I’d find ways to navigate the heat. You would think I’d find ways to keep my hands from burning when touching the steering wheel, or my legs from burning when sitting in the car. You would think I’d find ways to properly hydrate before mowing the lawn, going on walks, or walking down the Country Club Plaza.

Sadly, this is not the case.

As much as I loathe the heat, one thing is for certain — there is nothing like cold beer on a summer day. Lucky for us, Flatland has a slew of beers and beer-related events to keep you cool.

Apex Aleworks — 4356 S. Noland Road, Independence, Missouri — is hosting Chris and Piggy, an acoustic duo that specializes in folk, Americana and bluegrass this Friday from 9 p.m. to midnight. Snag some tasty beer from Apex and let the sound of banjos and acoustic guitars carry you away.

Beer Releases

Gotta Lite by Strange Days Brewing — 316 Oak St., Kansas City, Missouri — is an American banquet-style lager clocking in at 5% ABV. This highly crushable lager is brewed with Czech pilsner malt and Mandarina Bavaria hops.

Servaes Brewing Company 10921 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, Kansas — is releasing two Black is Beautiful imperial aged stouts for Juneteenth. One of the versions will be a standard barrel-aged imperial stout, and the other will be a barrel-aged imperial stout brewed with coffee from Kansas City’s own Black Drip Coffee.

Rockcreek Brewing Co. — 5880 Beverly Ave. Mission, Kansas — is releasing American IPA (7.2% ABV, 58 IBU) this Wednesday. This IPA was brewed with Columbus and Cascade hops from Kansas City Hop Co., and also Mosaic and Simcoe hops.

JoCo Juice is back at Limitless Brewing — 9765 Widmer Road, Lenexa, Kansas — this weekend. For the uninitiated, JoCo Juice is a New England-style IPA clocking in at 7% ABV, brewed with Cascade, Sabro, and Cashmere hops.

Apex Aleworks — 4356 S. Noland Road, Independence, Missouri — has a crazy cool beer that you should try. Krazy Cool is a Belgian witbier made with coriander and orange peel, and clocking in at 6.5% ABV (63 IBU).
